Note: Back in October 2012, you may have noticed construction-like activity on our Schuylkill Avenue property. Please know this work is not related to any future development that may occur on it.

The two small mock-ups you see today are of our new Ambulatory Care Center, under construction on Civic Center Boulevard. The models are secured by fencing and monitored by security personnel. Use of these models is normal in the course of development and will allow our contractors and consultants to evaluate the building design aesthetic prior to and during the construction of the Ambulatory Care Center.

South Philadelphia Project – Philadelphia, PA

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the City of Philadelphia are joining forces to provide health care to children and adults in South Philadelphia. The plan relocates two existing clinics ‒ a CHOP-owned pediatric primary care practice currently located in South Philadelphia, and the City-owned Health Center, which serves children and adults ‒ into one building, to be constructed by Children's Hospital on City land and outfitted by both CHOP and the City of Philadelphia. The space will also include new facilities for the South Philadelphia Branch Library and Disilvestro Rec Center.

The new health center will allow the City to expand its provision of dental care, prenatal care, mammography and a wide range of other healthcare services for children and adults. Additionally, integrating a health center, a library and a recreation center, will allow CHOP and the City of Philadelphia to create a complex that offers clinical care, wellness, prevention and literacy services to improve health outcomes for children and adults in South Philadelphia.

Under the conceptual agreement, the Hospital and other philanthropic sources will fully fund the construction of the new complex to house CHOP’s and the City’s existing services. The complex is slated to open by Dec. 2015.

CHOP and the City of Philadelphia hosted a community meeting regarding the South Philadelphia project on Monday, October 28, 2013. Representatives from CHOP, the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia architectural planning and design firm, VSBA, LLC, provided an update on the planning process.
