Shelters we serve

HHI currently offers services at the People's Emergency Center, St. Barnabas Mission of ECS, Women Against Abuse, Red Cross House, and Salvation Army Red Shield Family Residence. Please follow the links below for more information on each of these shelters.

People's Emergency Center
People's Emergency Center helps families experiencing homelessness through comprehensive services including shelter and housing, on-site counseling, employment, parenting and children's programs.

ECS St. Barnabas Mission
ECS St. Barnabas is a shelter for families experiencing homelessness. The shelter houses up to 105 women and children every day. In addition to housing and meals, St. Barnabas provides case management and health services, computer classes, Butterfly Pre-School Program, after-school program and summer camp.

Lutheran Settlement House Jane Addams Place
Jane Addams Place is a comprehensive emergency shelter for up to 29 mothers with children. At Jane Addams Place, Child and Family Advocates take a holistic framework in assisting residents by focusing on family systems and employing a trauma informed model so that families can regain and maintain permanent housing and employment. Programs provided include: adult education, life skills, and youth programs, as well as housing placement and referral services.

Women Against Abuse
Women Against Abuse provides emergency housing, legal services, hotline counseling, education and training, and advocacy.

Red Cross House
Red Cross House is a short-term housing facility and service center for victims of disasters. The shelter holds up to 120 individuals at a time. The goal of Red Cross House is to move clients into permanent housing in about 21 days.

Salvation Army Red Shield Family Residence
The Red Shield Family Residence provides shelter and support services to families experiencing homelessness. Salvation Army offers private rooms, three hot meals a day, case management services, parenting education, clean and sober services, and after school activities for children.

The National Alliance to End Homelessness is a nonpartisan, mission-driven organization committed to preventing and ending homelessness in the United States. The Alliance analyzes policy and develops policy solutions, leading to stronger programs and policies that help homeless individuals and families make positive changes in their lives.

National Health Care for the Homeless Council
The mission of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council is to help bring about reform of the health care system to best serve the needs of people who are homeless, to work in alliance with others whose broader purpose is to eliminate homelessness and to provide support to Council members.

Blueprint to End Homelessness
The Blueprint to End Homelessness is a Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition public policy initiative that brings together community leaders to implement policies and programs dedicated to eradicating homelessness.

National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth
The National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (NAEHCY) is a national grassroots association that connects educators, parents, advocates, researchers and service providers to ensure school enrollment and attendance, and overall success for children and youth whose lives have been disrupted by the lack of safe, permanent and adequate housing.

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization. Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 175,000 houses, providing shelter for nearly 900,000 people worldwide.

Habitat Philadelphia is an independently chartered affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International dedicated to rebuilding communities and lives in Philadelphia.
