The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is a place where medical miracles happen almost daily. We are a place where leading-edge research is translated into extraordinary care brought to the bedsides of thousands of sick children. We're an extensive network of primary and specialty care, inpatient and outpatient services extending throughout the community.
We're also a place where healing can come, not only by medical and surgical intervention, but by the touch of a hand, a shared smile or a knowing wink. We're a place where volunteers make a difference in the lives of children on a daily basis.
It takes a team with the right measures of technological proficiency and human touch to heal a child, and volunteers are an essential part of that effort. Whether playing with children during waiting times, greeting visitors or helping families find their way in the halls, the volunteers at CHOP make a difference providing a special human connection that often eases the stress for patients and families going through difficult times.
CHOP offers many volunteer opportunities. All volunteer activities support the needs of the patients, families and staff. Playing games with patients, visiting patient rooms, delivering toys and offering breaks to tired parents are just a few of the activities that our volunteers perform.
The Volunteer Services Department at CHOP is a diverse, trained group of individuals who selflessly devote thousands of hours each year to support the hospital staff and patients. We have volunteers throughout the year ranging in age from 16 to 85 and above.
Our goal is to make the volunteer experience beneficial for both you and the hospital. With that in mind, if you have recently experienced the death of someone close to you, we ask that you wait at least 18 months to apply with us. If you are currently seeking employment, please wait until after you are established in your new position to apply. If you are a CHOP employee, we ask that you be employed for a minimum of six months before applying to be a volunteer. Please keep in mind that patient privacy and confidentiality are respected, and individual illnesses are not discussed.
We work to find a volunteer time that suits your individual schedule. CHOP offers volunteer opportunities seven days a week. In order to be most effective and successful, volunteers must be consistent. Therefore, we require that applicants dedicate three hours per week for a minimum of six months and ask that you postpone volunteering until that becomes possible for you.
