Becoming a Volunteer
To become a volunteer at CHOP, follow this process:

- Submit the application, along with one reference (no relatives please).

Please note that we cannot accept hand-delivered applications.
- If selected, you will be contacted for an in-person interview with Volunteer Department Staff
- If accepted, required to attend a three-hour orientation (held monthly)
- Adult volunteers must be at minimum age 18 and out of high school.
Volunteers are asked to complete a minimum of three hours/one day per week for a minimum of six consecutive months. This must be the same day and time each week.
The application process can take up to 6-8 weeks
Medical Clearance and Background Checks
Working closely with patients requires thorough medical and background screening for the safety of everyone involved. Necessary medical and background information required will be discussed during the interview. Acceptance into any volunteer program is contingent upon certain clearances. These requirements include but are not limited to:
- Documentation of MMR vaccine OR proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps and Rubella
- Results of TB tests within the past three months
- Pennsylvana Act 33 (Child Abuse) Clearance
- Pennsylvania Act 73 (FBI Fingerprint Check) Clearance
- Criminal Background Check
