College Student Volunteer Opportunities

College student volunteers work at the Main Welcome Desk, Wood Welcome Desks, and Emergency Department, where they give a warm welcome to all patient families, evaluate limited visitation needs and guests with directions to get to where they're going. Please review volunteer screening requirements before applying.

College student volunteers have the ability to work one of these three daily shifts Monday through Friday:

Application process

Applicants will have to complete all of the following before volunteering at CHOP:

  1. Complete a volunteer application via the “Apply Now” link in the box on left side of page
  2. Attend an information session (Bedside Buddy applicants only)
  3. Submit background checks: FBI Fingerprint Check, PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal Record Check
  4. Complete a medical clearance: Immunization record, Tdap vaccination proof, 2-Step PPD, flu shot (as required per flu shot season)
  5. Attend a Patient Care Orientation
  6. Receive Final Steps toward becoming a CHOP Volunteer

The screening process at CHOP may take six to eight weeks depending on how fast clearances are sent to the Volunteer Services Department. Going through part or all of the screening process does not guarantee a volunteer placement. All volunteer placements are filled according to current hospital needs and the volunteer’s time commitment.
