Thank you for your interest in exploring the summer teen volunteer program at CHOP. It is our hope to provide high school students the opportunity to give of their time while gaining valuable hands-on experience and educational opportunities within a medical setting. There are only a limited number of summer teen volunteer positions available. A select group of applicants will have a personal interview with a member of the Volunteer Services staff. The selection of teen applicants will be based on factors such as:
Because we are a healthcare organization, there are some requirements you must fulfill before you can volunteer at CHOP. For the safety of our patients, their families, and for you, we ask all potential volunteers be able to commit to the following:
Eligibility Requirements. Applicants must be enrolled in high school and be between the ages of 16 and 18. Applicants must be age 16 by July 1 in order to meet eligibility requirements.
Time Commitment. Our teen volunteer program requires you to commit to one 4-hour shift a week for 6 weeks during a set summer schedule in July and August. Volunteer placements are available Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students will adhere to a pre-determined schedule that matches their availability.
Health Clearances. All volunteers are required to prove immunity to Mumps, Measels, Rubella, and Chicken Pox as well as a Tdap vaccination. Volunteers are also required to receive a TB skin test.
Orientation & Training. All volunteers will also be required to attend a General Information Session and New Volunteer Orientation and complete any additional training specific to their assignment as required. Parents and/or guardians are welcome to accompany students to the orientation session.
Transportation. Volunteers must have reliable transportation. On-site parking is available, however The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is acessible by public transportation (e.g. SEPTA Regional Rail and buses).
Restrictions. Volunteers must abide by all patient confidentiality guidelines, customer service expectations and hospital policies.
The Summer Teen Volunteer application will be available beginning April 1, 2013.
