- In 2006, a survey by Child magazine ranked the Orthopaedics Department at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia number one in the nation.
- Children’s Hospital orthopaedic surgeons have pioneered more than 15 orthopaedic surgical procedures and are internationally renowned for their skill in limb sparing surgery and in removing tumors from bones and soft tissues of the musculoskeletal system, and also the spinal deformity program.
- The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in pediatric orthopaedic patient care, education, and basic and clinical research.
- Children’s Hospital’s orthopaedic department provides a full-range of services from caring for children with common conditions such as sports injuries to those with the most complex musculoskeletal disorders such as scoliosis, cerebral palsy and bone tumors.
- Physicians in Children’s Hospital’s orthopaedics department provide orthopaedic evaluation and treatment in more than 35,000 outpatient visits and performs more than 1,800 surgical cases each year. To provide convenient access to families, outpatient care is provided in five ambulatory locations and surgical procedures are performed in four sites throughout the community.
- Research is an integral component to the orthopedic program at Children’s Hospital. There are currently 52 ongoing clinical research studies and the basic science research program is internationally recognized.
- Children’s Hospital’s unique Musculoskeletal Center is believed to be the only one of its kind in the nation. With orthopaedics at its core, the Center brings together a multidisciplinary team representing over 10 pediatric subspecialties to provide seamless and comprehensive care for infants, children and young adults with congenital or acquired musculoskeletal conditions.
- Children’s Hospital’s Musculoskeletal Center treats an additional 15,000 outpatients annually in the most complex musculoskeletal conditions such as scoliosis tumors, limb deformities, and neuromuscular disorders such as spina bifida.
- Children’s Hospital’s Sports Medicine and Performance Center provides broad-based, multidisciplinary expertise to help young people reach their full potential in fitness and athletic performance. This state-of-the art program delivers comprehensive sports medicine for young athletes who have special and unique orthopaedic, medical and psychosocial needs. The clinical team includes specialists in adolescent medicine, orthopaedics, sports nutrition and physical therapy with access to the full-range of Children’s Hospital’s medical services.
