- In 2006, a survey by Child magazine ranked the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia number one in the nation.
- The Division of Pulmonary Medicine is internationally known for being at the forefront of patient care and research into causes and treatments for the entire range of diseases affecting the lung, chest wall and control of respiration in children. The Division also operates an ACGME accredited Fellowship Training Program in Pediatric Pulmonology.
- The Pulmonology team believes in a holistic, multidisciplinary approach that utilizes the talents of many healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, nutritionists, respiratory therapists and physical therapists.
- Each year, the Division sees more than 7,000 outpatients at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's main campus, 2,000 of whom were seen at satellite locations, and another 2,000 inpatients at the Hospital's main campus.
- The Pulmonary Division Asthma Care Program provides a single source of multidisciplinary comprehensive asthma care and education for children and their families.
- Children’s Hospital’s Cystic Fibrosis Center is accredited for care, teaching and research by the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and provides integrated, multidisciplinary care for children with cystic fibrosis and their families. The Center also provides educational programs for health professionals and conducts research focused on improved treatments.
- Children’s Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center provides diagnostic services to aid in the evaluation of respiratory disorders, behavioral problems, parasomnias, narcolepsy, circadian rhythm disorders and movement disorders during sleep, and is a leading center of pediatric sleep research.
- Children’s Hospital’s Technology Dependence Center cares for children with chronic lung disease who are in need of assistive therapies such as oxygen, mechanical ventilation, airway clearance devices, or an artificial airway. The program provides ongoing assessment and treatment of conditions such as chronic respiratory failure and insufficiency in patients with neuromuscular disease, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and airway anomalies.
- The Division has extensive expertise in managing complex end-stage lung diseases and in lung transplantation.
- The Children’s Hospital’s Pulmonary Function Laboratory has comprehensive state-of-the-art facilities for performing and interpreting lung function tests in infants and children.
- The Children’s Hospital Sleep laboratory is accredited by the American Society of Sleep Medicine.
