CHOP Featured in News Stories About Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia

Yesterday was Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) Awareness Day, and some of CHOP’s doctors and patients appeared in news stories across the country. CDH is a condition in which a hole in the diaphragm allows abdominal organs to move into the chest and restrict lung development. The Awareness Day was founded with the goal of increasing awareness about this birth defect that appears in one out of every 2500 births.

Pediatric Surgeon Dr. Holly Hedrick was featured in a CBS3 news story with patient Peyton Laricks. Hedrick explains in the story what went wrong with Peyton’s prenatal development and the importance of raising awareness. Watch the story below. Then, check out the other stories that ran across the country highlighting patients and experts from The Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment at CHOP.
