Nursing in a Class of Its Own
The large, nationally known Cancer Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is in a class of its own. Offering a broad array of pediatric oncology careers and opportunities for advancement, it includes a Blood and Marrow Transplant Program within a 50-bed inpatient oncology unit and an oncology clinic that provides outpatient care. We also provide intensive outpatient oncology care in two satellite locations.
We treat:
- Brain tumors (brain, spine)
- Hepatoblastoma (liver)
- Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (blood)
- Acute myelogenous leukemia (blood)
- Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (lymph nodes)
- Hodgkin's lymphoma (lymph nodes)
- Neuroblastoma (nerve tissue)
- Retinoblastoma (eye)
- Rhabdomyosarcoma (bone and soft tissue)
- Osteosarcoma (bone and soft tissue)
- Ewing sarcoma (bone and soft tissue)
- Wilm's tumor (kidney)
- Germ cell tumors
- Langerhans cell histiocytosis (blood)
- Melanoma (skin)
Our Bone Marrow Transplant Program is unique in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware area for several reasons:
- We are the only pediatric program in the Delaware Valley accredited by the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy, which has rigorous standards of practice for clinical, collection and processing facilities.
- We are the only Children's Oncology Group-affiliated BMT program in PA, NJ or DE.
- We are the largest pediatric transplant center in PA, NJ, or DE affiliated with the National Marrow Donor Program, which has strict standards for transplantation expertise and procedures.
Our highly experienced transplant team consists of Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) physicians, radiation oncologists, nurse practitioners, a search coordinator, a social worker, nutritionists and child life specialists — all of whom work together to provide comprehensive care for each patient.
We have a total of 11 beds for stem cell transplantation, all in HEPA-filtered rooms in a special HEPA-filtered unit that includes a playroom and exercise room.
