If you are researching a disease or medical condition, please use our condition content and health information as resources. To protect the health and privacy of our patients, we have very strict infection control and patient privacy guidelines and cannot permit students to shadow doctors, nurses or other health professionals at the Hospital.
I'm a high school student interested in nursing and would like to shadow or observe a nurse at CHOP.
We do not allow students to shadow anyone at CHOP out of respect for the time of our clinicians, and the privacy and safety of patients and families. If you’d like to learn more about nursing, consider attending the Hospital’s Lunch with a Nursing Professional program, where students will gather in front of a panel of CHOP nurses for a 40-minute Q & A session, followed by small a group lunch with a nurse and tour of the Hospital. CHOP can only accept shadowing college students as part of a paid program (nursing externship) or for college credit. Learn more about CHOP’s nursing externship program.
