  • Background

    Naomi Brown, MD, is a graduate of Tufts University and Tufts University School of Medicine, both in Boston, MA. She completed her pediatrics residency at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and a specialized fellowship in sports medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital.

    Before joining CHOP’s Division of Orthopedic Surgery in 2013, Dr. Brown worked in the Department of Emergency Medicine at A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, DE. It was there she discovered her interest in sports medicine and pursued further training at Boston Children’s in the care of a broad range of sports-related injuries.

    In Boston, Dr. Brown worked with athletes of all ages and backgrounds, including professional dancers and collegiate athletes. She treated athletes during high school and Division I games, as well as in athletic training rooms and at community events.

    Today, Dr. Brown works at CHOP’s Main Campus in Philadelphia and CHOP Care Network locations in Voorhees, NJ, and King of Prussia, PA. She has specialized training in the use of medicine into the office setting, which can be a useful adjunct to diagnose and treat acute and chronic injuries.

    “I enjoy taking care of patients with sports-related injuries,” she says. “My specific interests include sports injury prevention, overuse injuries, pain management, and general non-operative orthopedic conditions.”

    Dr. Brown is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is active in orthopedic and sports medicine research, and has written and presented numerous papers about her research.

    In January 2014, Dr. Brown was lead author on “Effect of Cognitive Activity Level on Duration of Post-Concussion Symptoms.” The study supports the use of mental and physical rest after a concussion enhance long-term cognitive activity.
