Background

Lawrence Copelovitch, MD, is an attending physician at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and a Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Copelovitch completed his undergraduate studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where he graduated with First Class Honors and as a member of the Deans Honor List. He subsequently attended Albany Medical College where he was recognized with numerous awards, including the Daggett Prize in anatomies, the Arthur Knudson Prize in Biochemistry, the McGraw-Hill Award, and was nominated to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society in his junior year. He completed his pediatrics residency training at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he was awarded the Pediatric Resident Teaching Award. He then joined the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as a pediatric nephrology fellow in 2004.

After completing his fellowship, he left for one year to volunteer as a pediatric nephrologist at the Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Since returning to CHOP in 2008, he has primarily been a clinician. His primary areas of expertise include general nephrology, pediatric dialysis, hemolytic uremic syndrome, and kidney stones. In this role, he helped co-found the Pediatric Kidney Stone Center at CHOP in conjunction with Dr. Tasian in Urology. Together, they serve as the primary providers in this nationally recognized multidisciplinary specialty center. In 2012, he assumed the role of Medical Director of the Dialysis Unit, where his responsibilities include leading all clinical, regulatory and research initiatives for both the hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patient populations. In 2017, Dr. Copelovitch assumed the role of Medical Director of Supply Chain, where he is working to improve collaboration between clinicians and Supply Chain staff in order to best maximize hospital value analysis and improve efficiencies.
