Diva D. De León-Crutchlow, MD

Medical Director, Congenital Hyperinsulinism Center

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics

I am a physician-scientist with a research interest in disorders of carbohydrate metabolism in children. My research program focuses on the interactions between gut hormones and pancreatic beta cell function. I am particularly interested in the interaction between glucagon-like peptide-1 and the insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells in the pathogenesis of diabetes, and disorders of excessive insulin secretion such as congenital hyperinsulinism and other hypoglycemic disorders. My aim is to improve our understanding of these disorders with the goal of developing effective and innovative therapies. In addition, I am interested in genetic disorders of insulin regulation such as neonatal diabetes, MODY (maturity onset diabetes of the young) and congenital hyperinsulinism.
