Matthew Grady, MD, FAAP, CAQSM, is a pediatric sports medicine specialist in The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Grady is a board-certified pediatrician with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in primary care sports medicine. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where he is Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship program, and is responsible for training CHOP Emergency Department fellows, pediatric residents and medical students.
Dr. Grady is very active nationally in sports medicine education and policy, with specific expertise and interest in pediatric concussion. He serves on The American Medical Society for Sports Medicine educational committee, and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness, and served as AAP representative on the development of the National Physical Activity Plan.
Dr. Grady also reviews articles for several journals including the American Journal of Sports Medicine and Pediatric Emergency Care. He lectures extensively on a variety of sports injuries, how to evaluate if athletes are ready to participate, and how to prevent injuries.
Locally, he serves as the concussion consultant for several area high schools and has teamed with county and state officials to develop “return to school” guidelines for students following concussion injuries.
Dr. Grady earned his MD from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA, and interned at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. He completed his medical residency at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, and a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD.
In addition to his professional interests, he is very involved in youth sports at the community level. He serves on a local community youth sports board and is also a youth sports coach, holding an E class soccer license.
