  • Background

My specialty is general oncology and hematology, which I provide at Children's Hospital's Pediatric & Adolescent Specialty Care facility located in Voorhees, New Jersey. Providing both oncology and hematology services allows me to diagnose and treat children with varying cancer and blood disorders, including the more serious diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell disease, hemophilia or the more common issues such as iron deficiency anemia or adenopathy. The dual specialty provides a personally satisfying balance in the patients I see.

Starting in 1997, I helped to develop this fully functional suburban office, which is now the only pediatric oncology/hematology specialty clinic in southern New Jersey. Over the 13 years of existence, the center has grown tremendously. We currently care for thousands of patients per year, who receive excellent care close to home. We provide comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and management of all childhood cancers and blood disorders in a family and patient-centered environment. We encourage the family to become involved in the child's care.

An advantage of our outpatient clinic is the continuity of care. Patients will see the same doctor whether they come in on a Monday or a Friday. We are intimately involved throughout therapy and follow up -- and are not just medical crisis oriented. We have a social worker with expertise in oncology and we provide other psychosocial services such as family counseling, a teen oncology support group and a summer oncology camp. We also provide a school re-entry program in which we go to talk to the teachers and students to help demystify the disease.

Ever since my internship at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, I've always found oncology and hematology interesting and rewarding. I love the relationships I develop with patients and their families -- and the chance to provide hope. As such, I have been named an SJ Magazine Top Doc for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology for several years running.

Outcomes for kids with cancer have improved remarkably during the last few years. I see the cup as half full as we cure the majority of our patients. If a child needs treatment for cancer, this is the place to do it.
