Background

Dr. Topjian is a graduate of Harvard College, where she earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Biology. She earned her MD from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and a Master's of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Topjian completed pediatrics residency and pediatric critical care medicine fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She is a Professor of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and an attending physician in the CHOP pediatric intensive care unit.

She developed the CHOP post cardiac arrest care program and is a leader in the CHOP resuscitation program. Her clinical and research interests focus on neurocritical care, including neuromonitoring and treatment of status epilepticus in the ICU, and post cardiac arrest care, including targeted temperature management. She is the Director of Neurocritical Care for the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine and the Director of the Pediatric Neurocritical Care Fellowship. She is a NIH funded researcher with a focus on post cardiac arrest care, neuromonitoring and neuroprognostication. She has Chaired the American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support Guidelines and is an active contributor to the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation consensus on science process.

Additionally, she is the Associate Chief of Faculty Affairs for the Division of Critical Care Medicine. She is passionate about mentoring fellows and junior faculty members careers so support the developing career and success. She was recognized for these efforts with Joanne Decker Mentor Award in 2022.

She is always happy to collaborate and support early career clinicians both locally and across institutions.
