What is the significance of “Blue Tag” Gala and how can we participate?

Since patients with sickle cell disease often need many blood transfusions, it is best for them to receive blood that very closely matches their own. Donors with the same ethnic background usually make the best match.

Blood donors can guarantee their donation goes to help a patient with sickle cell disease by asking for the "Blue Tag." The "Blue Tag" notifies the American Red Cross testing lab that a blood donation is designated for the sickle cell program and the blood will be specifically matched for a patient with sickle cell disease.
The 14th Annual Blue Tag Gala benefits the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The Blue Tag name stems from the need patients with sickle cell disease have for many blood transfusions. There are many sponsorship levels for friends of the Hospital to showcase their leadership support of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center. Sponsorship reservations must be received by Monday, August 4, to be included in the invitation and by Friday, September 12, to ensure listing in the program book.
