University Medical Center at Princeton (UMCP) and CHOP have partnered to enhance pediatric services available at UMCP at all levels of hospital care:
Parents and their children now have access to world-class pediatric healthcare right in their own community at UMCP. Through this partnership, physicians and other health professionals from CHOP work on-site with the physicians and clinical staff of UMCP to provide exceptional care for your child.
A CHOP hospitalist is on-site 24/7 to consult on emergency cases involving infants, children and adolescents in UMCP's Emergency Department.
CHOP provides a pediatric hospitalist on-site 24/7 to care for children and adolescents who are admitted to UMCP's Pediatric Unit. A hospitalist is a physician who specializes in caring for patients in the hospital and who does not have an outpatient medical practice. The new CHOP pediatric hospitalist program supports the work of pediatricians currently on staff at PHCS.
CHOP neonatologists and certified neonatal nurses provide 24/7 care in the 14-bed, Level 2 Special Care Nursery at the University Medical Center at Princeton. CHOP staff can treat premature and full-term infants with respiratory failure, sepsis, jaundice and other neonatal conditions that require special care. Apnea monitoring services and follow up are available through the Princeton Apnea Program.
In addition to providing exceptional care for babies and children, UMCP is a national leader in maternity care, delivering more than 2,000 babies each year. The medical center has ranked among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the U.S. for maternity care for four consecutive years, and has received the HealthGrades' Maternity Care Excellence Award.
In 2011, UMCP will open a new Special Care Nursery in Plainsboro, with advanced technology and private newborn patient rooms that allow parents to spend the night with their babies, enhancing the bonding experience.
