CHOP Clinicians Travel to Venezuela for Cleft Repair Mission

chop clinician with venezuelan boy At the end of October, clinicians from CHOP’s Cleft Lip and Palate Program visited Venezuela as part of a Rotaplast International mission to screen and perform surgeries on children with cleft lips, palates and clefting deformities. In eight days, the team met more than 300 children in Cumana, VZ.

Rotaplast is the charitable arm of the Rotary Club. The group organizes multiple cleft missions each year.

The team included pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgeons Oksana Jackson, MD, and David Low, MD; plastic surgery nurse Kathy Dunleavy; anesthesiologists Denis Jablonka, MD, and Scott Cook-Sather, MD; and emeritus orthodontist Rosario Mayro.
