Kelsea Henderson and her family were featured in the HGTV holiday special, Sandra Lee's "Magical Merry Christmas" on Dec. 5.
Kelsea, now 18, was diagnosed at CHOP with a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor on her chest wall when she was 13. The tumor, which was growing into her spinal canal, was successfully treated with more than 30 surgeries and care by a team of experts in various specialties. Today, Kelsea is cancer free and is a freshman at St. Joseph's University, studying biology.
Friends of the Henderson family nominated them to be featured on the HGTV Christmas special. The entire family is very thankful for the wonderful care Kelsea received at CHOP and really wanted to find a way to give back to the hospital that saved her life. Knowing first hand what it is like to be in the hospital during the holidays, Kelsea decided she wanted to make gifts for patients in the PICU, the unit she spent the most time in while at CHOP. Kelsea worked with HGTV to create gift kits and delivered them this past October. During their visit HGTV interviewed Kelsea's neurosurgeon Dr. Storm and one of her nurses in the PICU Andrea Peculski.
