HI Center Names New Director of Inpatient Care

April 28, 2014 — The Congenital Hyperinsulinism (HI) Center at CHOP has a familiar, but different, face taking care of inpatients. Endocrinologist David R. Langdon, MD, who has been at CHOP since 2003, has taken over as director of inpatient service.

Dr. Langdon replaces Andrew Palladino, MD, who will now see children in the HI outpatient clinic.

“I’m excited to be in a position to build trusting relationships with families whose children need inpatient treatment for HI,” says Langdon.

It’s critical that newborns with extremely low blood sugar levels be treated as soon as possible to guard against potential life-threatening seizures. Specialists at CHOP’s HI Center, like Dr. Langdon, have the expertise to treat hypoglycemia, identify the type of HI a child suffers from, and help parents manage this rare but serious condition.
