Kohls Check PresintationDecember 13, 2012 — The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia received a $620,436 donation from Kohl's, through its Kohl’s Cares® program, to support the hospital’s injury prevention programs. The donation was presented to Children's Hospital officials today at their community partner, Kendrick Recreation Center in the Roxborough neighborhood.

Since 2000, Kohl’s has donated more than $6.3 million to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia through Kohl’s Cares®.“Kohl’s has been a long-time supporter of children’s health and is helping to make a difference here in the Philadelphia community. Thanks to Kohl’s support, our safety and education efforts continue to reach more children each year,” said Marla Vanore, director of Trauma and Injury Prevention Programs at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. “Along with the donations that allow us to continue injury prevention programs, Kohl’s associates also volunteer on a regular basis to make many of our community outreach events successful.”

This year's Kohl’s grant will support CHOP’s car seat distribution program, Mobile Safety Center, car seat safety checks, and advertising programs and educational materials brought to the Philadelphia region. The grant will also support injury prevention programs with community partners.

Injuries are the leading cause of death and disability to children in the United States. The Kohl's Injury Prevention Program at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is dedicated to preventing injuries in children. Through Kohl’s generous support, the Injury Prevention Program is able to offer expert online information and resources, local safety events in the greater Philadelphia area, community car seat inspection stations, and a mobile safety center offering child safety products such as car seats, bike helmets and home safety products at low prices. In addition, our health educators provide free injury prevention information.

Kohl's commitment to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is made possible by the Kohl's Cares® cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys where 100 percent of net profit benefits children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl's has raised more than $180 million dollars through this merchandise program.

Kohl's Cares® also features the Kohl's Cares® Scholarship Program, which last year recognized more than 2,100 young volunteers with a total of $410,000 in scholarships and prizes. Through Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 500,000 associates have donated more than 1.6 million hours of their time since 2001 and Kohl’s has donated more than $47 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations. Kohl’s also offers fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations. For more information, visit the Kohl's website.
