Clinical Pathway for the Care of Children Post-CPR

Recommended monitoring for patients meeting the following criteria:

Monitoring
  • Arterial line
  • Central venous line
  • Continuous core temperature
    • 1 probe for controlled normothermia
    • 2 probes for induced hypothermia
    • Esophageal
    • Foley
    • Rectal
  • Continuous EEG monitoring
Clinical Goals
  • Fluids, vasopressors to prevent hypotension
  • Prevent hyperoxia
    • Wean O2 to maintain SpO2 94-99%
  • Promote Normocapnia
    • Maintain CO2 35-45
    • Use pH if chronic hypercapnia
  • Maintain Glucose 80-180
    • Use age-appropriate glucose infusion rate 3-5 mg/kg/min
Head Imaging CT w/o contrast on admission
MRI > 72 hours after ROSC
Consults PT / OT
PM&R (day 3)
Neurology
Cardiology if history of sudden death

Blood pressure goal

Age SBP
0 to 6 months > 70
6 mos – 2 yrs > 80
2 yrs – < 10 yrs > 90
>10 yrs > 100
