We are excited to host our lead speaker, Bethany Willis Hepp, PhD, who is an emerging leader in the field of open adoption and post adoption related challenges for children and their families.
In adoption, past and present frequently come together as families and children make their way into their futures. Dr. Hepp will present evidence from research as well as from popularized media on the considerations for exploring your child's pre-adoption history.
From why or why not to complete birth parent searches, to adult adoptee perception of the value of discussions while growing up about their adoption, this talk is sure to stimulate discussion amongst parents and children.
You only need to order ONE ticket for your entire family to attend a session. If you have adopted children in more than one age group, please email CHOPAdopt@email.chop.edu so we can help you decide which group session is the best fit for your family. We welcome families who are both pre-adoption and post-adoption. Just choose the ticket type that is right for you. Please note: the number of pre-adoption women who can attend Mom's Club is unlimited!
10:30 am - 12:30 pm: Under 5
Morning events are geared towards families who have children under 5, and sibling groups. We know that parenting toddlers and pre-schoolers who have been adopted presents special challenges balanced with great joy! Groups will be lead by a social worker, and serve as a place for parents to discuss challenges, talk through solutions, and engage in activities with their children to promote attachment and manage challenging behaviors.
1 - 2:30 pm: Mom's Club
You are not alone! Come meet and talk with other moms with a social worker moderating discussions and offering resources and support. Activities for children are available. Space limited for number of children.
3 - 6 pm: Family Education Event (Ages 5 – teens)
6 - 7 pm: Please join us for Pizza and Soda Social!
