To schedule an evaluation with the Regional Autism Clinic at CHOP, please call 215-590-7500 and follow the prompts to speak with our autism intake coordinator.
Our intake coordinator will ask you questions about your child. This information will be used to determine the best type of evaluation to meet your child’s needs, based on your child’s age and medical history and your specific concerns. Evaluations can range from one-and-a-half hours to four hours or longer, and may be done in one day or over a few visits, depending on the type of evaluation and the number of providers your child will be seeing.
Unfortunately, there may be a significant waiting period between your intake phone call and your evaluation appointment. The exact length of time depends on the specific type of evaluation your child needs, but it can range from several weeks to several months. This delay has to do with a national shortage of professionals with expertise in autism and related developmental disorders.
The intake coordinator will let you know the approximate timeframe in which your child may be evaluated. She will also discuss important things to do while you are waiting for an evaluation to help address your child’s immediate needs.
If your child is less than 3 years of age: Children less than 3 are given priority. We will mail you a packet to complete and return. As soon as we receive and review the packet, we will send you a letter with the approximate month your appointment can be scheduled. We will then contact you to schedule your child’s appointment.
If your child is older than 3 years: We will mail you a packet two months after your intake phone call. This will ensure that we have the most up-to-date information for the evaluation. As soon as we receive and review the packet, we will send you a letter with the approximate month your appointment can be scheduled. We will then contact you to schedule your child’s appointment.
Please note that we schedule only three months in advance. You are welcome to contact us with any questions or to make sure we received your packet.
Please make sure we have up-to-date contact information for you.
