Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program
Welcome to the Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) Program at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. We are one of the largest and oldest pediatric bone marrow transplant programs in the US. Since 1976, we have performed more than 1,200 transplants for children. We are unique in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware area for several reasons:
- We are the only pediatric program in the Delaware Valley accredited by the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy, which has rigorous standards of practice for clinical, collection and processing facilities.
- We are the only Children's Oncology Group-afilliated BMT program in PA, NJ or DE.
- We are the largest pediatric transplant center in PA, NJ, or DE affiliated with the National Marrow Donor Program, which has strict standards for transplantation expertise and procedures.
Our highly experienced transplant team consists of Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) physicians, radiation oncologists, nurse practitioners, a search coordinator, a social worker, nutritionists and child life specialists — all of whom work together to provide comprehensive care for each patient.
We have a total of 11 beds for stem cell transplantation, all in HEPA-filtered rooms in a special HEPA-filtered unit that includes a playroom and exercise room.
