In this video, Dr. Spatz discusses the importance of breastfeeding in the lives of at-risk newborns and provides lactation support at CHOP for a new mother and her 2-day-old daughter. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia was one of three local winners of the 2010 Breastfeeding-Friendly Business Award. The Philadelphia-based employers were recognized for their exceptional efforts to support breastfeeding employees, ahead of the nation's laws. Section 4207 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), or healthcare reform, required workplace breastfeeding support, effective March 23, 2010.
As part of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health's Get Healthy Philly initiative, Maternity Care Coalition is promoting the health and economic benefits of breastfeeding to strengthen breastfeeding support in Philadelphia workplaces. Watch the video.
