Cancer Recovery and the Cancer Survivorship Program

The Cancer Survivorship Program at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is a cancer recovery program that works with survivors to answer these questions and to maximize their health and wellness. The cancer recovery team members — doctors, nurses and psychologists — provide expert care to survivors of childhood and adolescent cancer who are experiencing or may be at risk for late effects of cancer treatment.

Our cancer recovery program provides follow-up care to hundreds of long-term cancer survivors each year. Since the cure rate for newly diagnosed patients is approximately 80 percent, we expect that our clinic will continue to expand. Our newest offering is a Multidisciplinary Cancer Survivorship Clinic that enables survivors to see physicians and nurses from various Hospital departments all on the same day.

Our history

In 1983, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, under the direction of Dr. Anna T. Meadows, started the first program to care for and track long-term survivors of childhood cancers. The program's goals were then, and are now, to:
