Division of Cardiology
The Division of Cardiology treats thousands of infants, children and young adults with heart conditions every year. We provide:
- more than 20,000 outpatient visits per year at the main campus in Philadelphia and Specialty Care Centers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey .
- more than 50,000 tests per year, including electrocardiograms, echocardiograms and cardiac MRI, to diagnose and monitor patients.
- more than 1,000 cardiac catheterizations per year.
- consultations for infants and children at affiliated hospitals in Pennsylvania and New Jersey .
Our staff members work together to diagnose your child's condition and develop a treatment plan. When surgery or hospitalization is required, the Hospital has two inpatient units (for critical and intermediate care) exclusively for cardiac patients.
Our medical staff includes more than 50 pediatric cardiologists, one of the largest teams in this specialty in the world. We also partner with the University of Pennsylvania to treat adults with congenital heart conditions through the Philadelphia Adult Congenital Heart Center. Our staff includes internationally recognized researchers in basic research (in the laboratory) and clinical research (with patients) of pediatric heart conditions.
In 2007, Cardiology division professionals had more than 100 articles published in peer-reviewed journals, 33 published book chapters, and 70 abstracts or other presentations at national meetings.
