As the parent of a child with congenital heart defect (CHD), one of the best things you can do is stay up to date in your knowledge of cardiac care. The world of pediatric cardiac care is complex and ever-changing. Success is now defined in the long term, as thousands of children with congenital heart disease (CHD) are surviving and entering adolescence and young adulthood. At the Cardiac Center at CHOP we want families of children with CHD to stay well informed.
Heart and Mind Education Day is an exciting opportunity for Cardiac Center families to connect. The event is also open to families of children with CHD who have not previously been treated at CHOP.
During this full-day annual event, Cardiac Center staff provide seminars on topics important in cardiac patient care. Staff answer parents’ questions and address concerns. In addition, a special session for adolescents and young adults with CHD provides a forum to provide important information to these growing survivors, and address their questions. Patients and families have the chance to share their experiences with each other and keep their knowledge up to date. Last year, more than 200 people attended Heart and Mind Education Day.
