Center for Childhood Communication
The Center for Childhood Communication is the region’s first comprehensive, integrated center to address the full spectrum of communication problems in children from birth to age 21.
A team of experts – including audiologists, speech/language pathologists, social workers, mental health counselors, educators, researchers and otolaryngolists– offers complete evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation services to children and provides support, education and guidance for families. Outpatient services are provided at four speciailty care locations in Pennsylvania and two in New Jersey, as well as at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Main Campus.
We have a range of clinical services, including:
- Audiology, which provides evaluation and diagnoses and rehabilitative audiologic services for hearing loss in children from birth to age 21.
- The Family Wellness Program helps parents and children face the day-to-day stresses that come with hearing loss and practice skills to make life easier.
- Speech-Language Pathology evaluates and treats children who have difficulties with communication and swallowing. Services are provided across the continuum of care from CHOP’s intensive care units, acute care units, rehabilitation programs, multiple specialty clinics, and outpatient programs
- The Stuttering Program provides diagnostic and individualized therapeutic intervention for children and adolescents who stutter and their families, ongoing consultation and continuing educational experiences for the professional
- The Cochlear Implant Program – one of the largest exclusively pediatric implant programs in the country – evaluates children with severe sensorineural hearing loss that may be helped by a cochlear implant and provides support to children who already have cochlear implants.
