Closed Circuit TV Program
For most children, watching television means just sitting back and staring at the screen. Not so at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Thanks to Sidewalk Productions, our closed circuit TV program, watching TV becomes a group activity! Our innovative programming allows children and staff to join in the fun while watching shows designed to provide entertainment, education and opportunities for interaction.
Sidewalk Productions programming is:
-
Therapeutic: SPTV provides opportunities for children to express themselves and supports children’s coping with the healthcare experience.
-
Educational: SPTV provides opportunities for children to learn about the hospital environment as well as other topics.
-
Interactive: SPTV gives children the chance to become involved in various aspects of production and programming, whether or not they are able to leave their beds/rooms.
-
Entertaining: SPTV offers programs that serve as an enjoyable distraction from the routine aspects of hospitalization.
SPTV programming
SPTV produces several different shows, which are aired on a regular monthly schedule. In addition, special events such as concerts, magicians and theatrical performances are broadcast live as they occur, to allow children who cannot leave their rooms to enjoy the performance as much as the live audience.
Monthly programming:
-
Guess or Dress: A monthly, interactive game show based loosely on both HANGMAN® and PICTIONARY®. Hosts have viewers try to guess a word or phrase, or identify an object as it’s drawn. Every time a viewer guesses incorrectly, the hosts will “dress up”, adding a piece of clothing for each incorrect guess.
-
BINGO: Medical and number BINGO are offered on a weekly basis, as well as “themed” BINGO for occasions such as Read Across America Week, Camp Get-a-wella, and Children’s Hospital’s 150th Anniversary.
-
Story time: Professional storytellers from the Philadelphia area are invited to Children’s Hospital to perform live stories for patients. Story time is also broadcast for those who are unable to leave their rooms.
-
A Day at the Zoo: An hour long show which includes scenes from the Zoo along with soothing background music.
-
Beaches: An hour long show which includes scenes from the beach along with soothing background music.
-
Marine Life: An hour long show similar to the Coral reef relaxation show which includes soothing background music.
-
Wordster: A live game show where patients are given clues by the host to figure out which word is being described. Intended for all ages. Similar to "Catch Phrase".
-
Are We There Yet? A show that includes fun and educational songs and games, hosted by Miles the goose.
