Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics

The Division of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia leads laboratory and clinical research efforts focused on the development of new drugs for the treatment of childhood diseases through the study of pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics and pharmacodynamics. Laboratory research efforts use an integrated approach that incorporates preclinical studies and clinical trials in pediatric patients. The Division laboratory is a core facility that employs modern analytical assay techniques in accordance with the Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards, utilizing micro-volumes to allow for pharmacokinetic studies of new therapeutics in infants and children.

A spectrum of clinical trials, performed in collaboration with subspecialists throughout The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, are conducted by researchers within the Division of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics. Many of these trials are phase 1 or 2 studies of new drugs for children. The Division collaborates nationally with the Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit (PPRU) network and the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Phase 1 Consortium.
