As part of a Philadelphia coalition awarded a grant from the Merck Childhood Asthma Initiative, CAPP is working with the Health Promotion Council (HPC) and Thomas Jefferson University to expand CAPP services to areas of the city not currently served by the program. This includes South, Northwest and lower Northeast Philadelphia. Philadelphia is one of only five cities nationwide to receive this grant to combat pediatric asthma.
The Office of Children's Health Protection at the United States Environmental Protection Agency bestowed this award to CAPP In 2006. CAPP was one of only 14 individuals and organizations across the country to receive the 2006 Children's Environmental Health Excellence Award.
The University of Michigan's Asthma Health Outcomes Project, sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency, selected CAPP as one of six final award winners from 400 national applicants. Selected one of the top Model Asthma Programs in the country, CAPP staff members attended the EPA's Communities in Action for Asthma-Friendly Environments- National Forum in Washington, D.C. in May, 2006.
CAPP classes and home visits are currently supported by grants from the Merck Company Foundation.
