Multidisciplinary Approach to the Care of Children and Adults with Cystic Fibrosis
The Cystic Fibrosis Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia consists of numerous specialists who collaborate to provide multidisciplinary care for the pediatric and adult cystic fibrosis patient. The interdisciplinary health care team forms the core of our center and meets regularly to assess the clinical, educational and psychosocial needs of the family and to plan and evaluate care provided.
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia primary team consists of pediatric pulmonologist, gastroenterologists, nutritionists, advanced practice nurses, physical therapists and social workers. Additional expertise from genetic counselors, interventional radiologists, physical therapists, pharmacologists, and respiratory technologists is available. Transplant surgeons and their teams provide the capability for both liver and lung transplants for those patients who are candidates.
The CFC's adult program at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center (UPMC) has realized rapid growth over the past few years. The patients are transitioned from the pediatric program at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia or referred from the regional practices in the tristate area. The primary team consists of pulmonologists, registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, a dietician and a social worker.
