Cystic Fibrosis Clinic

The core healthcare team includes board-certified pediatric pulmonologists and gastroenterologists who are available for all outpatient visits. In addition, a board-certified pediatric pulmonologist with specialized training in cystic fibrosis is available 24 hours a day.

The team conducts daily inpatient rounds and holds three weekly conferences to review inpatient and outpatient management. Patient's primary care providers receive annual summaries of the child or adolescent's clinical status and treatment goals.

Testing

Testing available through the CF Center:

  • Diagnostic testing including QPIP sweat testing and molecular diagnostic laboratory.
  • State-of-the-art pulmonary function testing for infants and children. Plethysmography, exercise and challenge testing are also available.
  • Nutrition and gastroenterology laboratory with routine capability for measuring body composition (TOBEC), bone density (DEXA), resting energy expenditure and pancreatic function via endoscopy.
  • Complete pediatric imaging including high-resolution CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and interventional radiology.

Counseling and Education

Counseling

Genetic counseling is available for parents, patients and their extended families. The Center also offers psychosocial support and counseling for individuals, families and groups.

Education

An educational program and parent resource manual are available for parents of children recently diagnosed with CF. In addition, the Center offers an annual conference for families. Topics include updates on basic and clinical research, advances in clinical care and gene therapy.
