Diabetes Center for Children

Diabetes Self Management Classes

Diabetes is a chronic disease that can have a significant impact on your child’s and family’s lifestyle. While the team at CHOP’s Diabetes Center for Children knows a lot about your child’s condition, you are the experts on your child and family life.

Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) empowers families to make day-to-day decisions about their child’s care. Our goal is to give families the knowledge and skills to be the front-line managers of their child’s diabetes so they can enjoy a normal childhood and adolescence.

Our Center offers DSME classes on an outpatient basis.

What are the benefits of DSME classes?

Who teaches DSME classes?

All DSME classes are taught by Certified Diabetes Educators (CDE), licensed healthcare providers who specialize in educating people with diabetes about their condition. CDEs are a part of the larger team at Children’s Hospital’s Diabetes Center.
