Liver Biopsy

A liver biopsy is a procedure to obtain a very small piece of the liver so it can be examined for disease.

After your child is asleep (by sedation) and under sterile conditions, a needle is used to obtain a very small piece of liver tissue from your child. This tissue is sent to a laboratory to assist in establishing a diagnosis for your child.

To learn more about liver diseases, see the Fred and Suzanne Biesecker Pediatric Liver Disease Center.

See about your child’s visit and pre-procedure information to help prepare your child for a liver biopsy.

This test is only available at CHOP’s Main Campus.
