Resting Energy Expenditure

Resting energy expenditure (REE) measures the amount calories required by your child’s body during resting conditions.

For this test, your child must be able to lie still for about one hour. Children are able to watch a video during that time. In some cases, sedation is required to help your child lie still. To measure your child's energy expenditure, we will place a clear plastic hood over their head so we can take measurements of the air as they breathe normally.

See about your child’s visit and pre-procedure information to help prepare your child.

This test is only available at CHOP’s Main Campus.
