Fetal treatment center research and training is meant to develop a new generation of medical and surgical fetal specialists who are well trained to carry out innovative and scientifically rigorous laboratory and clinical research leading to effective strategies for fetal treatment. The program supports a trainee for two to three years of clinical or laboratory research training.
Program mentors include faculty from The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Cornell University who are recognized leaders in laboratory or clinical research related to fetal treatment. These mentors will supervise trainees in basic laboratory research and/or patient-oriented research projects related to fetal treatment.

The breadth of Fetal Treatment Center Research opportunities is made possible by the experience of the world-renowned Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment, including an ongoing NICHD-sponsored multicenter, randomized, clinical trial examining fetal treatment of myelomeningocele. As a trainee in our Fetal Treatment Center Research, you will be exposed to the broad research context — biostatistics, bioethics related to fetal therapy, and responsible conduct of research.
