Curriculum
During clinical training, the fellow is expected to develop an understanding of the etiologies, pathogenesis, management, treatment and prevention of the following:
- Organ system infections
- Pathogens of infectious diseases
- Prevention of infectious diseases
- Immunity and host defense
- Mechanisms of infectious diseases
- Infections in special circumstances
- Infections in high-risk hosts
- Epidemiology
- Principles of epidemiologic research and biostatistics
The trainee is expected to acquire this knowledge by:
- Serving as the consulting fellow on inpatients and outpatients referred for evaluation to the infectious diseases service
- Reading the appropriate medical literature
- Attending clinical management conferences
- Attending didactic teaching sessions
- Individual discussion with faculty members
