International Medicine

Why Global Health

Every year an estimated 6.9 million children die before their fifth birthday because they contract preventable and treatable illnesses like diarrhea, pneumonia and malaria.

Over half of these diseases are exacerbated by poor nutrition in the developing world. CHOP staff work to change this every day.

Rotavirus Vaccine Research

Former Global Health Fellow, Dr. Henry Welch, recently published an article in the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, describing rotavirus testing results, demographics, seasonality and outcomes in children admitted to the hospital with acute gastroenteritis during Botswana’s 2011 rotavirus season.
