John joined The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) as a frontline team member working closely with international families around all types of social concerns, including schooling, housing and cultural issues. Prior to arriving at CHOP, John practiced social work for 13 years, spending two years at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in general medicine.
John’s interest in international medicine first arose during his time in the United States Coast Guard where he worked in Search and Rescue and Port Security. His interactions with international personnel from multiple countries gave him a great deal of respect for all cultures. John’s international interest also inspired him to start The Global Tree House Youth Connections, a non-profit program, linking underserved youth in the U.S. with youth abroad in a two week cultural and educational program.
John attained a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from LaSalle University, teaching for eight years prior to receiving his master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently completing his PhD in social work in international eucation development at New York University.
