Thank you for choosing The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) for your child’s care. Welcome!
CHOP, located in the state of Pennsylvania, was the first hospital in the United States devoted exclusively to caring for children. Since its doors opened in 1855, the Hospital has made many medical discoveries that have improved pediatric healthcare and saved countless children’s lives.
An important measure of the quality of children’s hospitals in the U.S. is the yearly rankings provided by a magazine called U.S.News & World Report. For the 2013-14 rankings, the magazine surveyed 179 pediatric centers for data about 10 specialties and asked 150 pediatric specialists in each specialty where they would send the sickest children.
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia earned the number one spot on the U.S. News Honor Roll, and ranked in the top four in the nation for every pediatric specialty evaluated.
CHOP was recognized for excellence in the following specialties:
CHOP earned high marks for its dedication and expertise across multiple specialties, the quality of its treatment, survival rates, research and other factors. The Hospital was also recognized for its strong reputation with specialists and the large number of nurses in the hospital per each admitted patient.
CHOP is also ranked as the best children's hospital in the United States by Parents magazine's 10 Best Children’s Hospital survey of 2013. Parents surveyed children’s hospitals across the United States to determine where the more than three million U.S. children hospitalized each year can get the best care possible.
In additional to the overall number one ranking, Parents also ranked CHOP’s Cancer Center and emergency medicine division number one in the nation. The Cardiac Center tied for first, neonatology ranked second and orthopedics and pulmonology ranked third.
