If there is no living donor available, then a deceased donor is used. Once your child has completed the evaluation process, and we've determined a transplant is the best option, he will be placed on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waiting list to receive a kidney transplant from a suitable donor.
Many factors determine how long a person waits for a kidney: age, blood type, tissue matching and more. Unfortunately, it's impossible to know for sure how long your child will need to wait for the kidney.
You will be provided with a beeper to be used only to allow us to reach you regarding your child's transplant. Notify the renal transplant coordinator at 215-590-2449 when you have received the beeper. You may leave a voicemail message providing this information, as well as the beeper number, so the coordinator can reach you when a kidney becomes available. Please contact the transplant social worker at 215-590-4613 if you don't receive your beeper.
