    Transport

    all Specimens should be refrigerated immediately after collection. If an extended delay is anticipated (>2hrs), specimens should be frozen and transported on ice so that they remain frozen. See "Remarks" for additional submission information.

    Stability

    Specimen must be frozen if not in laboratory within 2 hrs of collection. See "Remarks" for additional submission information.

    Processing

    If specimen is received in the Laboratory by 7AM, results are generally available by early afternoon of the same day. Otherwise by early afternoon of the following day.

    Unacceptable conditions

    Blood, Bone Marrow,Tissue/Biopsy specimens.
    Unacceptable respiratory specimens include: nares, nasal swabs and mouth swabs.

SPECIMEN COLLECTION/SUBMISSION INFORMATION:
Respiratory specimens: Acceptable specimens include:
BAL, Nasal aspirate, sputum and throat swabs.
If respiratory specimen will not reach the Laboratory within 1 hour of collection, it MUST be submitted in M5 transport media.

Ear swabs: Must be submitted in M5 transport media.

Sterile Fluids: Acceptable specimens include:
CSF, pleural fluid, joint fluid, pericardial fluid,and tympanocentesis fluid
Submit specimen in sterile leak proof container; NOT in M5 transport media.
