Minimum required is one ml. Volumes of 1 to 3 mls MUST be submitted on ice.

Transport
Urine in gray topped tube:transport at room temperature ASAP.
If urine is sent on ice: transport to lab immediately.
If urine in sterile container is submitted at room temp.: it MUST be received in the Lab within 20 minutes of COLLECTION.
Stability
Gray topped tubes are acceptable for up to 48 hours after collection.
Unacceptable conditions
Received NOT in a gray top urine transport tube or on ice

SPECIMEN COLLECTION INFORMATION:
Optimal submission if specimen is greater than 3 mls: gray top urine transport tube at room temperature.
If specimen is less than 3 mls: do not put in transport tube; submit specimen in sterile container/tube on ice immediately.
If specimen is submitted in a sterile container at room temperature: it must be received in the Laboratory within 20 minutes of collection.
If 3 mLs available: gray top collection tube
If less than 3 mLs urine: in sterile urine cup on ice
