Hair, nail or skin scraping in a container (does not need to be sterile) or toothbrush (also see Transport)

Place specimens directly into a container or if using a toothbrush, brush the scalp and then re-place brush in packaging. Store and transport all specimens at room temperature

Remarks
HAIR: Cut hair to within 1/2 inch of scalp and pluck remaining hair for culture. SKIN: Cleanse area with alcohol and take skin scrapings from the leading edge of the lesion. NAIL: Clean area with alcohol and clip nail.
