Remarks

For cases M-F 08:00-17:00, the Pathology Department should be notified prior to the start of the surgery. Upon removal of the specimen take the sample immediately to the Pathology Department. After 17:00, on weekends, or holidays, contact the Neuropathologist on-call, via the hospital intranet on-call schedule, for instructions on handling the specimen. Freezing is not optimal for the final histology of the specimen. If sample is too small, a frozen section should be avoided unless indication is critical for intraoperative management.
